Abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Pres, Paris

4.4
Abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Pres is all that remains of a sixth-century abbey of the same name, destroyed during the French Revolution. With royal patronage, it soon became one of the wealthiest abbeys in France, as well as a center for scholars. King Childebert I commissioned the abbey and church to house. The abbey got its named from Childebert's close advisor and the Bishop of Paris, Germain--who was later canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. Among its claims to fame are the facts that Louis-César de Bourbon, son of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan, was an abbot here and that philosopher René Descartes was buried here. • The outwardly very powerful church turns out to be a gem inside because of its versatile and sometimes very unusual "inventory". Especially the ceiling in a blue light color fascinated us, it seemed as if it was the "direct" sky.

  • This church is located in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Pres district. The exterior is a simple building, but the interior was a very impressive church.

  • For a long time I had not come ... After renovations this abbey has become a magnificent feast of eyes... In any marriage of blue with golden yellow.... And don't forget: visit there to take architectural photos
